India Amends Urea Import Policy: Industrial Use Now 'Free' Under Chapter 31, ITC (HS) 2017 Rules.
The Central Government of India has amended the import policy conditions for urea under Chapter 31 of the ITC (HS) 2017, Schedule-I. The amendment specifies that urea, whether or not in aqueous solution, will continue to be managed by a State Trading Enterprise. However, the import of urea for industrial, non-agricultural, or technical purposes is now classified as 'Free' under the condition that it is used by the actual importer. This change is enacted under the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020, as per the powers conferred by the FT (D&R) Act, 1992.
