India Amends Arecanut Import Policy: Prohibits Imports Under Rs. 251/kg CIF Value to Regulate Trade Conditions.
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has amended the Import Policy for arecanut under the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020. This amendment supersedes the previous notification dated January 17, 2017. The revised policy stipulates that the import of arecanut, including whole, split, ground, and other forms, is prohibited unless the cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) value is Rs. 251 or above per kilogram. Imports meeting or exceeding this value are allowed to be imported freely. This change aims to regulate the import conditions based on the CIF value per kilogram.
