<h1>State commission launches large-scale caste census Sept 22-Oct 7 with 175,000 enumerators, 60-question survey, tech tools</h1> A state commission will conduct a Social and Educational Survey (caste census) from Sept 22 to Oct 7 using about 175,000 enumerators to cover roughly 70 million people in 20 million households, at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore. A 60-question instrument, UHIDs, geotagging via electricity meter numbers, Aadhaar and ration-card linking, face-recognition in the app, a helpline, and online participation are included. A subset of 33 castes with dual religious identifiers will be masked in the enumerator dropdown but remain in the system and may be self-reported. The exercise has drawn criticism from political actors and community groups over scope and methodology.
