Anti-Corruption Bureau investigates Rs 145 crore fake billing scandal in student coaching scheme
The Lieutenant Governor ordered an Anti-Corruption Bureau investigation into alleged corruption in the Jai Bhim Pratibha Vikas Yojna, a scheme providing free coaching to SC, ST, and OBC students for competitive exams. The current Education Minister alleged that during the previous government's tenure in 2021-22, bills worth Rs 145 crore were prepared for payment to private coaching institutes without proper verification of student lists. The Chief Minister stated that while the scheme's official budget was Rs 15 crore, fake bills allegedly totaling over Rs 142 crore were processed. The current government claims only 13,000 students were listed by coaching institutes, and even assuming all received civil services coaching at Rs 1 lakh each, the legitimate amount would be Rs 130 crore. Only 3,000 students have been verified as actually receiving coaching, with the matter currently in court.
