Rupee gains 26 paise to 85.68 against dollar on lower crude prices and foreign inflows
The rupee strengthened by 26 paise to close at 85.68 against the US dollar, recovering from Monday's 54-paise decline. The currency gained support from falling global crude oil prices, a weaker dollar, foreign fund inflows, and firm domestic equity markets. The rupee traded in a narrow range between 85.64-85.80 during the session. Market experts expect the currency to remain between 85.30-86.00 levels, with potential for further gains if trade developments materialize. Brent crude fell 0.55% to $69.20 per barrel, while the dollar index declined 0.18% to 97.30. Domestic equity markets rose with foreign institutional investors purchasing equities worth Rs 321.16 crore.
