The Minister of Railways Shri Prabhakar Suresh Prabhu while presenting Railway Budget 2016-17 in Parliament today said that in pursuance of the objectives of Accessible India Campaign Indian Railway will ensure that all stations under redevelopment are made disabled friendly. He also said that at least one disabled friendly toilet in all platform in A1 class stations will be built in the next financial year. He also announced one-time registration for the persons with disabilities for availing concessions while booking tickets online. Online booking of wheelchairs & Braille enabled new coaches were also introduced for the persons with disabilities. He also announced Increasing of quota of lower berths for senior citizens and women, middle bays reserved in coaches for women.
Disabled friendly stations and services expanded: accessible toilets, one-time disability registration, online wheelchair booking and Braille coaches. Station redevelopment must deliver disabled-friendly infrastructure under the Accessible India Campaign, including at least one disabled-friendly toilet on each platform of A1 class stations; one-time registration for persons with disabilities to claim ticket concessions; online wheelchair booking; and introduction of Braille-enabled coaches, together with increased lower-berth quota for seniors and women and reserved middle bays for women.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
