FIIs can now use AAA-rated domestic and foreign government securities as collateral in Indian stock exchanges' cash segment.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) are now permitted to use domestic government securities and foreign sovereign securities with AAA ratings as collateral for transactions in the cash segment of Indian stock exchanges, in addition to cash. This decision, made in consultation with the Government of India and SEBI, does not allow cross-margining between cash and derivative segments. Existing guidelines for the derivative segment remain unchanged. Amendments to relevant foreign exchange regulations will be issued separately. Authorized Dealer Category-I banks are instructed to inform their clients about these changes, which are issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.
