FIIs Can Now Use Corporate Bonds and Government Securities as Collateral in Cash and F&O Segments Under FEMA 1999.
The circular addresses the maintenance of collateral by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) for transactions in the cash and Futures & Options (F&O) segments. It permits FIIs to use their investments in corporate bonds as collateral in the cash segment and both government securities and corporate bonds in the F&O segment. These changes, decided in consultation with the Government of India and SEBI, expand the types of collateral FIIs can offer, including government securities and AAA-rated foreign sovereign securities. Authorised Dealer Category-I banks are instructed to inform their clients about these updates. The circular is issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.
