India Extends Export Obligation for Raw Sugar Importers Until December 31, 2011, or Pays Duties for Non-Compliance.
The Government of India has issued a circular regarding the extension of the export obligation period for Advance License Holders who imported raw sugar between September 21, 2004, and April 15, 2008. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs allows these holders to either extend their export obligation period until December 31, 2011, without composition fees or abolish the export obligation by paying applicable customs duties for the unfulfilled quantity. The Director General of Foreign Trade has issued a public notice concerning this decision. Relevant authorities are instructed to inform the trade and exporters and provide guidance to assessing officers.
