Amendment to Para 2.54(d)(v)(iv) exempts certain imports from PSIC; requires radiation checks at six Indian ports.
The amendment to Para 2.54(d)(v)(iv) of the Handbook of Procedures, 2015-2020, issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, modifies the pre-inspection requirements for imports of metallic waste and scrap. Import consignments from the USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the EU, when cleared through six specified Indian ports, are exempt from the Pre-Shipment Inspection Certification (PSIC) requirement. These consignments must include a certificate confirming the absence of radioactive materials or explosives and will undergo radiation and explosive checks at the ports. Imports through other ports or transshipments are still subject to PSIC.
