Power to relax statutory requirements may permit government to ease scheme provisions causing undue hardship. The Central Government may, by order and for reasons recorded in writing, relax requirements of the Bank Term Deposit Scheme where operation of a provision causes undue hardship to the assessee, provided such relaxation is not inconsistent with the governing statute.
