1964's 17th Amendment: Article 31-A Updated to Protect Personal Cultivation Land with Fair Compensation; Redefines 'Estate.
The Constitution (17th Amendment) Act, 1964, amends Article 31-A by adding a proviso to clause (1) that prohibits the State from acquiring land under personal cultivation within the applicable ceiling limit, unless compensation at market value is provided. Additionally, clause (2) is revised to redefine 'estate' to include various land tenures such as jagir, inam, muafi, janmam rights, ryotwari settlements, and lands used for agriculture or related purposes, including waste and forest lands, in specific regions.
