<h1>1973 Amendment: Article 81 Adjusts House Membership Numbers, Adds Proviso for States with Population Under Six Million.</h1> The Constitution (31st Amendment) Act, 1973, amends Article 81 of the Constitution. In clause (1), sub-clause (a), the number of members is increased from five hundred to five hundred and twenty-five, and in sub-clause (b), the number is reduced from twenty-five to twenty. Additionally, a proviso is added to clause (2), stating that the provisions of sub-clause (a) will not apply to the allocation of seats in the House of the People for any state with a population not exceeding six million.
