Application of Sixth Schedule protections to tribal areas grants constitutional status to autonomous council, promoting self governance and development. Application of the Sixth Schedule to Tripura is proposed to confer constitutional status on the Autonomous District Council, embedding the council within the Constitution to reinforce its authority, preserve tribal customary governance, and promote focused development and self governance for tribal areas.
