This proviso ensures that in elections to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, the representation of Scheduled Tribes and non-Scheduled Tribes in constituencies within the Bodoland Territorial Areas District is maintained. This applies to constituencies that were notified and existed before the formation of the Bodoland Territorial Areas District.
