Faceless Penalty Scheme 2021: Personal Hearings via Video Conferencing Now Possible; Updated Approval Process Implemented
Under the Faceless Penalty Scheme, 2021, individuals are not required to appear in person or via an authorized representative for proceedings before the income-tax authority at the National Faceless Penalty Centre or related units. However, they may request a personal hearing to present their case, which will be conducted through video conferencing. The Board is responsible for ensuring the necessary technological facilities are available to prevent denial of access to the Scheme due to lack of video conferencing capabilities. Recent amendments have removed references to the Regional Faceless Penalty Centre and updated the approval process for personal hearings.
