Rule 17 of Prevention of Money Laundering Rules, 2007, Defines Tenure for Tribunal Chairpersons and Members
Rule 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules, 2007, details the tenure for the Chairperson and Members of the Appellate Tribunal. A Chairperson who is a serving judge holds office for five years or until reaching a specified age, whichever is earlier. Non-judicial Chairpersons have similar terms but may continue until superannuation if it occurs within a year post-term. Members, whether retired or serving officers, also serve for five years or until age sixty-five. Additional provisions apply for those holding additional charges, and the Chief Justice of India must be consulted before the removal of certain appointees.
