Non-resident debt investment permissions establish eligible instruments, payment channels, and repatriation treatment for foreign investors.
Foreign Portfolio Investors may acquire specified Government, corporate, securitised, infrastructure, municipal, InvIT, REIT and other eligible debt instruments on a repatriation basis. NRIs and OCIs may invest in prescribed debt instruments on repatriation or non-repatriation bases, subject to the applicable investment category. Consideration must be paid through permitted inward remittances or designated foreign currency, SNRR, NRE, FCNR(B), NRO, rupee, or approved accounts. Sale and maturity proceeds, net of taxes, may be remitted or credited to the account prescribed for the relevant investor and investment basis.
