<h1>Customs Duty Reduced on Rice and Edible Oils; New Rates Effective April 1, 2009, per Customs Act, 1962.</h1> The Central Government has amended notification No. 21/2002-Customs to reduce customs duties on rice and edible oils, effective from March 21, 2008. The amendments include the insertion of new serial numbers and entries, specifying a nil duty rate for certain goods under serial No. 22AB starting April 1, 2009. Additionally, changes in duty rates include a 20% rate for certain items under serial numbers 30 and 36A, and a 27.5% rate for items under serial numbers 36B, 37B, and 434. These changes are made under the powers conferred by the Customs Act, 1962, in public interest.
