Government Amends Export Rules: Onion Varieties Now Restricted Items Under ITC(HS) Classification, Require License for Export
The Central Government, exercising powers under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, has amended the ITC(HS) Classification of Export and Import Items for 2004-09. The amendment substitutes the existing entries at Sl.No.44 of Table B Schedule 2. The new entry classifies various onion varieties, including Bangalore Rose and Krishnapuram Onions, as restricted items. Export is permitted under license through designated canalizing agencies, subject to conditions by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The restrictions are not applicable to exports with No Objection Certificates issued by designated agencies until October 4, 2007.
