of <h1>Central Government Extends Literacy Project u/s 35AC, Expanding to 8030 Schools Across Six States with Increased Funding.</h1> The Central Government, under section 35AC of the Income-tax Act, 1961, has extended the Literacy project by Friends of the Tribal Society, which initially involved running 2890 One Teacher Schools in tribal areas across six states. Initially approved for three years starting from the 2002-03 assessment year, the project was extended for another three years starting in 2004-05. The project is now further extended for three more years from the financial year 2007-08. Additionally, the project scope has expanded to 8030 schools, with the cost increasing from Rs. 8.67 crore to Rs. 16.50 crore.
