India Modifies Excise Refund Process for Housing: Submit Quarterly Claims with Certificates; Refund Capped at Rs. 9000 Per House
The Government of India has issued an amendment to Notification No. 32/2005-Central Excise, modifying the process for refund claims related to duties paid on goods used in housing construction. The approved construction agency must file quarterly refund claims with a self-certified consumption certificate within 60 days, extendable by another 60 days, to the jurisdictional excise officer. Upon completion, a completion certificate and a consolidated consumption certificate must be submitted. The jurisdictional excise officer will sanction the refund at 6% of the construction cost, capped at Rs. 9000 per house, upon verifying the documentation.
