of <h1>Amendment to Notification No. 8/2003-Central Excise: Small-Scale Industries Exemption Limit Raised to Rs. 150 Lakh Under Section 5A.</h1> The Central Government has amended notification No. 8/2003-Central Excise, originally issued on March 1, 2003. Effective April 1, 2007, the amendments increase the exemption limit for small-scale industries from 'one hundred lakh rupees' to 'one hundred and fifty lakh rupees' in the relevant sections of the notification. This change is made under the authority of section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944, and is deemed necessary in the public interest. The notification was published in the Gazette of India and was last amended in December 2006.
