<h1>India Imposes Safeguard Duty on Tapioca Starch Imports to Protect Domestic Producers; Excludes Most Developing Countries</h1> The Central Government of India has imposed a safeguard duty on the import of Tapioca Starch under sub-heading 1108 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, following findings by the Director General (Safeguards) that increased imports are harming domestic producers. The duty is set at 33% ad valorem from May 2, 2005, to May 1, 2006, 23% from May 2, 2006, to May 1, 2007, and 13% from May 2, 2007, to May 1, 2008. The duty does not apply to imports from developing countries except Thailand and Vietnam.
