India Lowers Basmati Rice Minimum Export Price to $700/MT, Expands Export Ports to All EDI Locations

The Government of India has amended Chapter 10 of Schedule 2 of the ITC(HS) Classification concerning the export of Basmati Rice. The amendment, effective immediately, reduces the Minimum Export Price (MEP) of Basmati Rice to US$ 700 per metric ton, down from US$ 900. Exports are now allowed through all EDI ports, whereas previously, only six ports were permitted. Other conditions for export remain unchanged, including contract registration with APEDA, grain specifications, and pre-shipment quality inspections for exports to the EU and Russia. Restrictions on exporting empty printed gunny bags are specified, with certain allowances when accompanying rice consignments.
