India Lifts Wheat Export Ban; Exports Now 'Free' via Custom EDI Ports, Subject to DGFT Registration
The Government of India, under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has lifted the ban on wheat exports, effective immediately. This change is made through amendments to the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import items, replacing the previous notification from October 2007. Wheat exports are now categorized as 'free,' but must be conducted through Custom EDI ports. Additionally, exports via non-EDI Land Custom Stations on the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Nepal borders are allowed, subject to quantity registration with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Designated Regional Authorities will oversee this registration process.
