<h1>India Amends Notification for Mega Power Projects: New Security Requirement for Importers Under Condition 86.</h1> The Government of India has issued an amendment to Notification No. 21/2002-Customs, concerning the exemption and effective rate of basic and additional duty for specified goods under Chapters 1 to 99. The amendment, effective from July 21, 2011, introduces a new clause under Condition No. 86. It requires importers of projects with provisional Mega Power Project status to provide a security in the form of a Fixed Deposit Receipt for 36 months, equal to the customs duty payable, if the final Mega Power status certificate is not furnished within 36 months of importation. The security will be appropriated if the certificate is not provided.
