India Raises Cotton Export Cap to 65 Lakh Bales for 2010-11; Registration Still Required for Customs Clearance
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has amended the export restrictions on cotton for the 2010-11 season. The export cap has been increased to 65 lakh bales, up from the previously set 55 lakh bales. Export contracts must be registered with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade before shipment, and customs clearance will require verification of this registration. While the cap on cotton exports has been removed, the requirement for registration remains. There are no changes to the procedures for exporting cotton waste, including yarn waste and garneted stock.
