<h1>Govt Approves IT Special Economic Zone in Ernakulam, Kerala; Effective from May 16, 2011, Under SEZ Act, 2005</h1> The Central Government has approved the establishment of a sector-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for information technology and IT-enabled services in the villages of Puthencruz and Kunnathunadu, Ernakulam District, Kerala. Proposed by a state government organization, this SEZ covers an area of 12.5804 hectares and fulfills the requirements under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005. An Approval Committee, comprising various government officials and representatives, has been constituted to oversee the SEZ. Effective from May 16, 2011, the SEZ is also designated as an Inland Container Depot under the Customs Act, 1962.
