Central Government Restricts Acetate Tow, Filter Rod Imports; Allowed Only for Specific Manufacturing Uses Under Customs Act 1962.
The Central Government, under the Customs Act, 1962, prohibits the import of Acetate tow and Filter Rod unless used in manufacturing specified goods. This restriction applies to goods under specified chapters and headings of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. Imports for manufacturing purposes must comply with the Customs (Import of goods at concessional rate of duty for manufacture of excisable goods) Rules, 1996. The specified goods include filter rods and pharmaceutical products of Chapter 30, as well as filter cigarettes and bidis. Subsequent amendments have refined the descriptions of allowed goods.
