Notification No. 35/2010-Central Excise, dated December 21, 2010, issued by the Central Government, rescinds Notification No. 17/2010-Central Excise. The rescinded notification had exempted packaged or canned software from excise duty on the portion of the value representing the consideration for the transfer of the right to use such goods. This decision was made under the powers conferred by the Central Excise Act, 1944, and is deemed necessary in the public interest. The rescission does not affect actions taken or omitted before this notification.
