of <h1>Government Approves SEZ for Electronics and IT Services in Shimoga, Karnataka; Effective as Inland Container Depot from Aug 2010.</h1> The Central Government has approved the establishment of a sector-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for electronics hardware and software, including IT-enabled services, at Villages Machenahalli and Nidige, District Shimoga, Karnataka. Proposed by Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS), the SEZ spans 14.5736 hectares. An Approval Committee, consisting of various government officials, has been constituted to oversee the SEZ. The SEZ is designated as an Inland Container Depot effective August 4, 2010, under the Customs Act, 1962.
