<h1>Amendment to Foreign Exchange Regulations: Indian Banks Can Approve Corporate Guarantees for Overseas Lease Financing. Effective April 20, 2009.</h1> The Foreign Exchange Management (Guarantees) (Amendment) Regulations, 2010, issued by the Ministry of Finance, amends the 2000 regulations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999. Effective from specified dates, the amendment introduces a new clause in Regulation 5. It allows authorized banks to permit Indian residents to issue corporate guarantees to overseas lessors for financing imports through operating leases. This is subject to the Reserve Bank of India's directions and must comply with the current Foreign Trade Policy and the Foreign Exchange Management (Current Account Transactions) Rules, 2000. The amendment is retroactively effective from April 20, 2009.
