of <h1>India Updates Excise Duty Rates on Unmanufactured Tobacco; New Rates Effective April 2010, Include Filter Khaini Definition</h1> The Government of India amended Notification No. 16/2010-Central Excise, dated February 27, 2010, concerning the capacity-based rate of duty on unmanufactured tobacco, including chewing and Jarda scented tobacco. The amendment, effective April 13, 2010, modifies clauses and updates duty rates per packing machine based on the retail sale price of tobacco pouches. The revised Table-1 specifies rates for various price ranges, with a formula for calculating duty on higher-priced items. Additionally, 'filter khaini' is defined as chewing tobacco packed in filter paper or fabric sachets. Corrections to the notification were issued on April 15 and April 21, 2010.
