of <h1>India Grants 70% Service Tax Abatement on Rail Goods Transport Effective July 1, 2012, via Notification 09/2010</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 09/2010-Service Tax, amending Notification No. 1/2006-Service Tax dated March 1, 2006. This amendment grants a 70% abatement on the service tax for the transport of goods by rail. The amendment is made under the authority of the Finance Act, 1994, and is deemed necessary in the public interest. The changes will take effect from July 1, 2012. The principal notification has been amended multiple times, with the latest substitution extending the effective date to July 2012.
