of <h1>India Revises Marble Import Policy: Only Units with Registered Gang Saws, Excluding EOUs and SEZs, Eligible from October 2009</h1> The Government of India has amended the policy for issuing import licenses for rough marble blocks and slabs, effective from October 1, 2009. Under the new guidelines, only units with installed marble gang saw machines, excluding 100% Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), are eligible for import entitlements. The machines must be registered in the applicant's name, and leased machines are not considered. Additionally, eligible units must have been operational for at least five years before April 1 of the current licensing year. This amendment is enacted in the public interest.
