India Updates Customs Exemptions for Goods Imported Under Advance Licence; New Rules on Self-Declaration and Input Specifications
The Government of India has issued amendments to Notification Number 94/2004-Customs, dated September 10, 2004, concerning exemptions for goods imported under an Advance Licence for Annual Requirement. The changes specify that authorizations based on self-declaration, where Standard Input Output Norms are not fixed, are valid for importing inputs necessary for manufacturing export products. The authorization holder must prove submission of an application to the Director General of Foreign Trade. Additionally, inputs must match the quality and specifications used in the export product, with declarations required on the shipping bill. These amendments are effective as of February 19, 2009.
