India Prohibits Rough Diamond Trade with Venezuela Following Kimberley Process Withdrawal, Amending Foreign Trade Policy Paragraph 2.1
The Central Government has amended paragraph 2.1 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2004-2009, as per Notification No. 65 dated December 1, 2008. This amendment, under the authority of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, prohibits the import and export of rough diamonds (HS Code 7102.10, 7102.21, or 7102.31) to and from Venezuela. This decision follows Venezuela's voluntary withdrawal from the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). Consequently, no Kimberley Process Certificates will be accepted, endorsed, or issued for rough diamonds involving Venezuela. This measure is enacted in the public interest.
