<h1>India Bans Import of Certain Livestock Products Due to Avian Influenza Concerns; Exceptions for SAARC Research Materials</h1> The Central Government has amended Condition 16 of Chapter 1 A in the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import items for 2004-09, prohibiting the import of certain live-stock and live-stock products into India due to notifiable Avian Influenza concerns. Prohibited items include domestic and wild birds, unprocessed meat and meat products from Avian species, and semen of birds. Additional restrictions apply to imports from countries reporting Avian Influenza, covering live poultry, chicks, eggs, and related products. Exceptions are made for diagnostic and research materials from SAARC countries and processed pet food. This prohibition remains in effect until further notice.
