India Revises Union Territory Tax Rules: Changes Impact Pre-Packaged Foods Including Curd and Sugar Effective July 18, 2022.
The Government of India has issued Notification No. 7/2022 to amend Notification No. 2/2017-Union Territory Tax (Rate) under the Union Territory Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. Effective from July 18, 2022, the amendments primarily involve substituting the phrase 'other than pre-packaged and labelled' for various items in the Schedule, affecting items like curd, lassi, buttermilk, jaggery, and khandsari sugar. Additionally, the definition of 'pre-packaged and labelled' is clarified as per the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. Certain serial numbers and their entries have been omitted from the Schedule.
