Customs Brokers Must Join Local Associations; New Rule Allows Flexibility on Compliance Deadlines Due to Uncontrollable Circumstances.
The Customs Brokers Licensing (Amendment) Regulations, 2022, issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, amends the 2018 regulations. Effective upon publication, the amendments require each Customs Broker to join the Customs Brokers' Association in every jurisdiction where they operate, provided such an association is recognized by the relevant Customs authority. A broker cannot join more than one association in a particular jurisdiction at any time. Additionally, a new regulation allows for the relaxation of compliance deadlines if a broker or applicant can demonstrate that non-compliance is due to uncontrollable circumstances, subject to Board approval.
