of <h1>Government Approves IT/ITES Special Economic Zone in Thane, Maharashtra; Operational from February 21, 2020.</h1> The Central Government has notified a 1.627422-hectare area for establishing a sector-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ) dedicated to Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services (IT/ITES) in Thane, Maharashtra. The proposal by a private company was approved on January 16, 2020, under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005. An Approval Committee comprising various government officials and representatives has been constituted to oversee the SEZ. The SEZ will be operational as an Inland Container Depot from February 21, 2020, as per the Customs Act, 1962.
