India Updates Rice Export Policy: Inspection Certificate Now Required for EU and Select European Countries.
The Indian government has amended the export policy conditions for rice, specifically Basmati and Non-Basmati varieties, under the ITC (HS) Export Policy, 2018. Effective immediately, exports to EU member states and certain European countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, require a Certificate of Inspection from the Export Inspection Council/Agency. From July 1, 2020, this requirement extends to all other European countries. This amendment modifies the previous notification dated November 4, 2019, and aims to ensure compliance with inspection standards for rice exports to Europe.
