of <h1>India Lowers Excise Duty on Petrol and Diesel: New Rates Effective October 5, 2018, per Notification No. 21/2018.</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 21/2018-Central Excise to amend Notification No. 11/2017-Central Excise dated 30th June 2017. This amendment reduces the Central Excise duty rates on motor spirit (petrol) and high-speed diesel. Specifically, the duty for petrol is adjusted to Rs. 2.98 and Rs. 4.16 per litre, and for diesel to Rs. 4.83 and Rs. 7.19 per litre. These changes are made under the powers granted by the Central Excise Act, 1944, and will take effect from 5th October 2018.
