India Ends Duty Exemption on Mobile Phone Camera Modules and Connectors; 10% Basic Customs Duty Imposed.
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has amended Notification No. 50/2017-Customs to withdraw the exemption from Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on camera modules and connectors used in cellular mobile phones. A 10% BCD will now be imposed on these components. The amendment specifies that digital still image video cameras, excluding those used in mobile phones, and connectors, excluding those used in mobile phones, are affected. This change is made under the powers granted by the Customs Act, 1962, and the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, in the interest of public policy.
