India Revises Pepper Import Policy: Restrictions Below Rs. 500/kg, Exceptions for Oleoresin Exporters Under AAS.
The Government of India has amended the import policy for pepper classified under Chapter 09 of the ITC (HS), 2017 - Schedule-1. The revised policy prohibits the import of various types of pepper unless the Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) value is above Rs. 500 per kilogram, in which case it remains free. Exceptions exist for imports under the Advance Authorisation Scheme (AAS) for oleoresin extraction and re-export by manufacturer exporters, subject to specific conditions such as minimum piperine content and monthly reporting to the Spices Board. The notification aims to regulate pepper imports based on CIF value.
