Government exempts customs duty on Chapter 30 medicines for specified patient assistance programmes by listed companies, subject to conditions
The Central Government exempted medicines falling under Chapter 30 of the Customs Tariff from customs duty when imported for supply under specified patient assistance programmes run by listed pharmaceutical companies, subject to conditions: drugs must be supplied free to patients under the programmes; the importing company must undertake to maintain patient and prescription records and ensure use for the specified purpose; and to pay duty with interest if conditions are breached. The exemption applied to the programmes and companies specified in the notification and was time-bound, ceasing on 31 March 2029, and was later superseded by a subsequent notification.
