<h1>India Imposes Safeguard Duty on Steel Imports to Protect Domestic Industry; Exemptions for Certain Grades and Countries.</h1> The Government of India has imposed a safeguard duty on imports of hot rolled flat sheets and plates of alloy or non-alloy steel, excluding coil forms, with a nominal thickness up to 150mm and width of at least 600mm. This duty aims to protect domestic producers from increased imports causing serious injury. The duty rates are 10% for imports from November 23, 2016, to November 22, 2017, 8% for the following year, and 6% until May 22, 2019, applicable to imports priced below USD 504 per MT on a CIF basis. Exemptions apply to certain steel grades and developing countries, excluding China, Ukraine, and Indonesia.
