India Updates Sawn Timber Export Policy: New Port Rules for Trade with Nepal Effective Now
The Government of India has amended its export policy for sawn timber, adding specific ports for export to Nepal. Under the new policy, the same firm must handle both import and export, which must occur from the same port. The policy is operational from several ports, including Chennai, Kandla, Kolkata, Mangalore, Mumbai, Mundra, Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Tuticorin, Vishakhapatnam, and the Land Customs Station of Raxaul. Notably, Mangalore and Tuticorin, as well as Kandla, Mumbai, Mundra, and Nhava Sheva, are treated as interchangeable ports. For exports to Nepal, Kolkata and Raxaul are considered the same port, allowing imports from Kolkata and exports from Raxaul.
