Amendment to 2007 Rules Alters Selection and Pay for Customs and Central Excise Commission Leadership Roles
The Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission (Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Chairman, Vice-Chairmen, and Members) Amendment Rules, 2007, have been established under the authority of the President. These amendments modify the rules from 2000, altering the selection criteria and pay scales for the positions. The Chairman is selected from serving members with at least six months of service remaining, while the Vice-Chairman is the senior-most member of each Bench. The pay scales are specified as 26,000 for the Chairman and 22,400-24,500 for Vice-Chairmen and Members. A minimum two-year service requirement is set before applying for other posts. The previous conditions remain effective for current officeholders until their term ends.
